James McCall founded McCall pattern co. The Royal charts were used
before the actual paper patterns. This was found in the drawer of an
antique buffet that we purchased at auction.
This chart says it was given with every purchase of a sewing machine at
the Great Southern Machine Emporium 87 Canal Street New Orleans La.
The information I have found online indicates this was was given sometime
in 1870's when sewing machines were $125, very expensive then.
Would love to hear more about your Royal Chart. Would love a copy of it, too. I can't read everything it says on the photo. Please contact me.

I have added a few more photos of some of the markings on the guide. Other than what is commented above, this is about all I have been able to find.
Thanks so much for the additional and sharp photos. Is the label on the back worth including as a photo? Would be interested to read it, if so.
The "Royal Chart" was sold by M S Hendrick from about January 1868, and his "Great Southern Machine Depot" is mentioned in 1868, but I have found no reference to "Emporium" being used, except on the chart itself. The "Royal Chart was first sold in 1863 in Scotland and in the USA from about October 1867.
Information about the chart is scarse, and that on the internet about James McCall almost always inaccurate. I've been researching him for 18 months and know very little more about him than when I first started out on my "weekend project" to write a short article about him for the International Sewing Machine Collectors' Society quarterly magazine, Ismacs News.
Thanks for your help- it is much appreciated.
