I got this machine at an estate sale and would like to find out what make and approximately what year. I am missing the dome top and thread tensioner other than that seems complete. The serial no is 1762485 and just below the 1 and 7 appears to be an R
My wife has a bit of a collection mostly Singer and a Foley Williams and would like to add this one. Hopefully the pictures are good enough for someone to identify the machine.

This site is for Singer machines, mine does not have "Singer" anywhere on it. Has Singer ever made a machine without their name on it that you know of?

      Thanks

From my research, I read that when singer began using drummers (door to door salesmen) they did sell unbranded machines. As I recall there were two reasons. First poor people couldn't afford a singer and so singer offered them credit payments on an unbranded machine. Secondly, as I understood it, the unbranded machines didn't meet the quality control requirements to have the singer brand. An unbranded product with credit gave them an outlet for machines that might not otherwise sell. I hope this helps a bit and good luck in your research.

It's a German machine, that lion decal is common to several brands and they can be really hard to identify. Can you make out any shadow of writing across the arm?

Thanks, no I cannot make out any writing at all.
