small little talavera [?] cube box with mr. sun - Mexican? Italian?

if this isn't mexican, then it's an italian take on a mexican piece. the reason i think it might not be mexican, is that i've never seen the bottom of a mexican piece quite like this. and the clay color is pretty unusual for mexican pottery too. heck, maybe it's chinese!
