Hi everyone...yes I'm still around. It's been a while since I've posted due to the fact that there's really been a shortage of anything worth buying at the thrifts, especially during Winter. Spring is here so people will start cleaning and the treasures should start pouring in again.
I've been busy as well at the antique co-op where my sister and I have a booth. People come and go and the opportunity presented itself to relocate, so I figured why not. It's a larger space and in a better location toward the front of the store. Can't believe all the things we had crammed into our original small space ! What a job, but I'm glad I did it.
Today I finally spied something worthwhile at Volunteer's of America. This interesting 8" carved bone figure on a wood base was sitting on a shelf right by the front door. I think he represents an "Immortal" probably part of a set or at least a pair. Very nicely carved with polychrome highlights. The base has a little post that fits into the hollow of the bone. I wasn't sure at first if it was resin or not but after I removed the base there was no doubt. Kind of gross inside but it's definitely a piece of bone. Not sure of the age but I feel the quality is quite good so maybe turn of the century or later. -Mike-
You're right, this is a nice piece. Could you get a clearer photo of the base?
Good to see you found something worthwhile and that you are once more posting.
Missed you, Mike!
Thanks for all the "loves" and comments everyone....Bonnie, Fort, Katherine, and Thomas. Hopefully my sister had better luck at the auction in New Jersey and it will yield some great finds to post come April when she visits. @Katherine...I'll take a picture of the base by itself. It's just a tiny hand carved oval shape. I didn't see any marks on it other than the price...lol.
Well done Mike!
Glad to see you back after all your work for moving the booth :-D
Really great piece love it
Thanks for the "loves" and comments Kyra and Master. Can't wait to see what my sister found at the auction. There should be plenty to post ! :)
Thanks, Mike, I meant the base of the statuette, sorry if I wasn't clear. This is an interesting piece. I would ask about it in the Chinese group on FB:

Hi Katherine....my last picture shows the bottom and interior of the somewhat hollow bone it's carved from. It's filled with sponge like residue probably from the marrow. It fits over the peg in the middle of the little wood base and sort of locks it in place. :)
GREAT FIND!!!
Thanks so much Sean for the "love" and compliment.
Mike, the picture of the base of the statuette is the same you posted before, it isn't very clear. That's why I asked if you could take and post a better pic of the base. And I do encourage you to post and ask on the FB Chinese page, there are some experts there that might tell you more about this work of art. :)
Very cool mike..
Thank you Roy :)
Hi Mike! You have been busy it sounds, and I'm glad things are going well.
This is really very nice. Well carved and interesting, and appealing too, despite the genuine bone guts (!)
Thanks Karen...It was pretty hectic last month but everything is flowing along just fine. My sister hasn't been to the shop yet to see everything in person. Her boss took a two week vacation to Thailand last month so maybe this month she'll have some free time to drive in from NJ. I know she has goodies to bring :)....yeah the bone guts are pretty gross but he's not...lol.
He is so very awesome! Nice find Mike!!!
Thanks so much for the "love" and comment Share :)
