Hello. I'm just looking for any and all information anyone might have on this spoon. I have no idea what era it is. It is from the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philly which is a historical teaching hospital founded in 1751. Top of handle is engraved with "Pennsylvania Hospital" and underbelly of the handle is engraved with "MAT". It would be neat if anyone here has knowledge of antique hospital silverware! Tried a Google search but nothing turned up.

      Hi - Welcome to CW.

International Silver was a large flatware maker, making knives, forks, spoons etc. for hospitals, hotels and airlines. Their silver is silver plate. If you do a google image search for International Silver you can find many examples.

"The production of sterling hollowware continued until 1976 while the silver plated hollowware business was sold to Oneida Silversmiths in 1981."

There is more information here, different marks etc.

I read (I think on eBay) that IS spoons from hotels, airlines etc. are collectable items.

Although they did make some Sterling Silver, their flatware was Silver Plate.
