I could be wrong, but looks like a marriage of a damaged vase and lighter.
      Still a neat repurpose though!
    17. Alan2310 Alan2310, 8 years ago
yesterdaysglass ....Certainly an inkwell would have been better accepted, but what you want is a lighter, and it is very good for me, why make a vase of this size??, really useless if damaged in making a lighter if it has the first instance, it's the idea.
Many thanks for stopping by, much appreciated your opinions.

Has it ever been documented ? This cannot be the only existing Loetz table lighter. The glass is unevenly ground. Even less reputable makers had metal rim (lip) fixed to glass, then the lighter inserted into it.

"why make a vase of this size??"
Not sure why they made smaller ones, just giving people more things to buy? :)

It looks a lot like the middle piece imo...

Still a cool piece and would look great with a vase like the one above!

Ok Kai, I got it, thanks for the link, totally agree, will look great beside that one.
This little Loetz have a rim protector , I just didn't post the pictures, I will do tonight.

The example has a polished pontil. If it were originally made to have a lighter insert, it would not have a polished pontil. It would instead have a cut rim for the insert. A punty rod is primarily attached to the bottom of a piece in production to fire polish the rim.

The fact that it has both a pontil mark and a ground top is a clear indication that the example seen here is a piece which has been cut down and re-purposed. Sorry, but that is simply what you have here.

czechglass5, please don't add anything to my pain right now, I'm booming in the momment, I know all this.. I dealing on EBay since 2001, as a seller and buyer.
I appreciate your concern and friendship, you have some on your plate, don't add me to the mix.

      Take care
      Regards

"I do want to add that if you can, get a partial refund for this piece of glass that was probably not what it was described at. In other words, it had been modified from it's original state, that's all you have to say, and show them some pictures. This happens much more often to more people that you ever hear about, including me."
      --------------------------
It should be on the buyer as well as seller to know what they are buying. Knowledge is power.! That said, looking at the sellers past listings I find if hard to believe they didn't know the piece was repurposed and far from "perfect"......

Alan, I comment little any more, as recently my comments seem to fuel disputes with a particular individual. I have simply grown weary of having to argue points on other peoples posts. It has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with the forum member. I enjoy your posts, and when I think I can add something that is useful, I comment.

It appeared to me that everyone was telling you what you had, what was wrong with it, but no one was providing any insight as to how to determine it, and provide you with a piece of information to help you avoid similar pieces in the future.

I felt that was an important point to add, so that something constructive came of the situation. We have all been here at some point.... but we avoid it by learning useful information. I was simply trying to provide that.

And I really appreciate the explanation, make way more sense the way you explained to me, I am visual person if you know what mean(you sure do)
I can see clearly this couldn't be right the way it is, strangely I like more now.

      Kindly
      Regards
      Alan

Again, many thanks for your time to get back on this post fews time today.

I don't think the time will ever come that any!! of us ever will have the knowledge or the experience be able to say that we know everything or to make mistakes but! what a true!! collector will do is admit and be gracious enough to admit they have got it wrong and be thankful that someone is taking the time to want to help widen our knowledge..I know I certainly am..:-)
