This is a thrift store find from last week. Between all the silver plated items I found this Dutch silver tea strainer. Marked with HH in rectangle for Herman Hooijkaas, year letter G = 1916 en the lion.

The patina is so dark that you can not recognize it as a silver tea strainer.

What do you think, leave it this way or clean/polish this tea strainer?

Update: I added a photo after cleaning. What a difference!

Gee, these are hardly ever silver. Lucky you! The green is verdigris and it will eventually destroy the metal, so better to clean it.

I have my great grandmothers hand held mirror all in silver, it's very dark so what I did was used a small paint brush with silver polish and put it on the high relief areas and rubbed it off that way. It left a lot of the darkness on there but...I guess it's hard to explain. I'll post it soon. Mine did not have any corrosion so I wasn't worried about that but I just wanted to brighten it up a bit. I love this strainer.

I cleaned the tea strainer and added a photo. Quite a difference.

Thanks Efesgirl, vetraio50, SpiritBear and shareurpassion for your advice.
      Thanks everyone for the love!
