Not sure wat these are or wat theyre worth, just think they look awesome!! I've been told legs from tub or woodburning stove, but haven't found anything like them?? I want to restore them, but not sure if it would hurt them or their value, if any? Thanks for looking
I would have to say the are the fronts of a pair of andirons for a fire place. Very nice.

I wouldn't have any concerns about restoring these. Are you just planning on cleaning the surface rust and then painting? Unless you blast them smooth, I don't see you hurting the value at all.

It should help by preventing further rust damage and if someone doesn't like the paint, they can remove it!

We are talking about parts or pieces to something-- not even sure what they went to-- not a cast iron bank.
There are many ways to tell old from new besides the rust.
Additionally, these are not worth a great deal of money.
I still say paint them and enjoy them.
I would definitely not do anything to these. I believe they are the fronts of andirons. They could be worth hundreds of dollars.

Construction style and techniques.
How the pieces are joined-- there is a joint with the back piece that is attached somehow, so I don't think the point is moot (debatable).
Finally, the quality is another indicator.
I don't know what these came from, but I would agree with others who told the owner that they are feet from something (bath tub, stove, etc...).
I think that the "N" on the front comes from the manufacturers name: maybe National Stoves or National Bathtubs?
If the Eagle had a decorative Federal style shield, then that would be MORE indicative that these are not just two leg pieces to something.
My overall impression (from many factors mentioned above) is that they are foot attachments to some other piece. From the owners post others agree. I do not believe they are andiron pieces.
As such it is my opinion that painting them and using them as decorative pieces is fine.
If the owner has concerns, then he shouldn't paint. If the owner wants to maintain a record of what they originally looked like-- he can take some photographs.
