This is a cast iron piece that I am in the process of refinishing. It was very rusty. Marked "Abendroth Bros. NY", I know they made stoves from the 1880s as well as garden pieces. This seems like it is missing parts, but I am making it into a plant stand.

This is a cast iron base to hold a hot water tank.

After a lot of research, I have found that it is a based to an old water heater! It makes a great plant stand.

This brings back memories but not memories of hot water.....bootlegging. The part in picture two was thrown in the dump. The parts in picture one were taken apart and round pins were welded in the top. The bottom had a U shape channel on each side where the top would drop in. That was kind of a pivot point. It would hold a 20 gallon jug of hard cider or corn squeezing. When someone came to get their jug refilled you could just tilt and pour without spilling or having to hold a 20 gallon jug. I guess my age is showing a bit.
