A few weeks ago I posted a little vase by Asahara and today I am showing the bowl that I purchased with it.
I love the colours of this; soft but almost intense, and an unusual combination. The trapped air and foil add interest and complexity without overdoing it.
Chiyoji Asahara is considered one of Japan's glass masters and has had a long and important career. He has been teaching glass arts since the early 1970s, and has works in many world museums. He worked at Sanyu Glass from 1969 until 1979, when he left to start his own studio at Otaru.
I'm happy to have this lovely piece to add to my collection from such a skilled and important artist from Japan.
Bowl diameter: 22cm
I just love the colour of this racer..and with that gold..you describe it perfectly!!..wonderful..:-)
Love the gold sheet! I sometimes visit the Toyama museum of glass art (really fab!), I wonder if his work is there too, I will pay attention next time.
Thanks Inky. Glad you like it :)
Thanks Bijou.
I am envious of course of your access to such places. The Museum at Toyama is such a stunning building, and from what I have read has a good glass collection in the Glass Museum, particularly of works by Fujita. It's on my list of things to visit when I do my "one day I will go to Japan" tour!
There's a lot going on yet it is so calm and delicate. Beautiful!
Oh yes, that building is really special. I love it. It brightens up the usually grey Toyama sky like it would catch the light. It would be so cool if you could come visit Japan!
Well said Peggy. Many thanks!
I'm working on it Bijou :)
Beautiful!!!
Thank you Green Lady.
