I recently inherited this clock and I would like to know something about it. Any clues? The body is heavy . Bronze and some kind of stone. The movement is french I think. The movement needs repair but no serious damage.
Very pretty!!
Hi,
Your clock is French, ca. 1880-1900. It is indeed made of marble and spelter, not bronze. The inscriptions on the dial are rather erased but the one at twelve o'clock would be the name of the original retailer of the clock and the one at six o'clock is that of the retailer's location. In order to identify the maker, pictures of the movement would be necessary. If you remove the bell at the back for the strike you may find a manufacturer's stamp on the movement underneath. If the movement is not stamped it will be very hard, if not impossible to attribute it to a specific maker.
Regards.
