I picked up this tablecloth at a recent estate sale and didn't really realize just how nice it was. There were a couple stains in it that I was able to remove after a bit of work on it but it was so worth it. There are two areas where the thread has loosened but I think there is enough there that I can repair it.
I don't have any books on just textiles but plan to go to the library to see what I can find. I'm thinking part, maybe all of this was hand "loomed" because the stitching in the solid area seems too tight to have just done that by hand. I figure it out.
It does work for the table here but most likely works best on a rectangle table. I love it and looking forward to finding out exactly what it is.
Some of my photos are taken with the wrong side up only because I wanted to see how much extra stitching there was where I need it to do the little repairs. Does anyone know about these. We don't often see them here...just wondering.
Thanks and enjoy! Next time I'll set the table ;)
Thank you aura, much appreciated ;)
Hi, I have one identical. I purchased mine about 25 years ago in Singapore market. I paid about $20.00 for it. In another shop further along I saw an American chap holding up the very same tablecloth say " my mum is going to love this" he paid $100.00 US dollars. Needless to say I was thrilled with my purchase. Enjoy and use it often.
Thanks Thomas, I do love it too. I certainly thought it was much older than waggy21 is stating. I really did. There are no tags on it either. BUT...I still love it.
waggy21, from the estate where I purchased this, they were travelers so I suppose that's the deal then. That's if I understand you right, you bought this new? Oh well, shtuff (lol) happens! What is funny, I should say ironic is that the more one thinks they know....
