Wrought iron and eteched glass decanter possibly from the prohibition era? Height over all is 19 1/2 inches x 11 inches, stand alone is 16 inches, the decanter is 13 inches x 5 inches. The decanter is etched glass with a glass tube insert(possibly for ice or may not even belong to this item) in the top and a metal dispenser (plunger like) at the bottom of the decanter. Looking to find out exactly what this is, age and any history?

We have one very close to this. We were told it is used for wine. You put ice in the glass tube insert and the wine goes in the decanter. It chills the wine without adding water. If possible let me know if this is actually how it is to be used. Thanks & good luck!

I have one and from what I gather over the internet they were original to around 1940. The glass insert is for storing ice. Original pieces are usually stamped. Mine says made in Austria on the bottom of the holder. Repros usually had plastic inserts. There should be a top to the decanter. I have not seen a holder like the one you have. They usually have wrought iron bottoms to catch the spills. You should be able to find alot of info. on internet. I posted mine on here awhile back. Hope this helps.
