This helmet was worn by my great grandfather during ww1. Found along with the helmet were pages from his diary and journals that would tell his day to day activities. Everything from fighting and watching his friends die to eating chickens in barns to survive.
Thanks for posting, I don't recognize the unit patch on his helmet.
What was his unit? You should be able to find that in the diary.
It is great to see these type items still in the family.

I've got a photo. It says company 106 from st Helena training station. That's all I see in the photo. My uncle claimed the diary so I don't have it in my possession anymore. It's something I'm proud to have on my hands.
I like it but it would have been better if you'd taken the time to fix the pic right side up first.............
I don't know why it did that. It flipped when it was uploaded.
Can you post a close up of the helmet patch?
i added a picture. i can't tell what was there.
really kind of kidding but it does look much better ! thanks
Insignia is not anything that I recognize.
I thought it might be the 30th Division at first, but it would have three "X"s in the center and not the "blob". Also the 30th was from the SE.
