Two months ago, I got this vase at an estate sale in Comox on Vancouver Island. It was very very dirty. I could see the colors and decision was made. It was going home with me. Even my husband loves it.
At the sale, I was told that it was at least 60 years old. The previous owner was 97 and it could have come from her mother.
This is what I could find out:
The vase is 12" tall, the base is 4" and the top is 6" across.
It is hand-blown art glass. The white stripes are also glass - they are slightly elevated above the purple glass. The vase has frosted finish on the outside and inside. The frosting on the white stripes shows some wear.
The vase was used a lot for flowers - I was not able to remove all the dirt from the inside.
The base plate appears to have been dipped into something black.
There is no signature or any other ID mark that I could read.

It's beautiful and I think 1980s or later. Well made. The base looks like black (dark amethyst) glass that has been made satin with the rest of the vase, either by sand blasting or acid etching. From the base with its rough unfinished pontil break I would say it is a studio piece, and studio glass really didn't get going until the 80s. Look carefully around the sides of the vase near the base for a mark, it may be hard to see because of the satin finish.

      Thanks racer4four.
I checked the vase again and I did not find any identifying marks.
The only information (age etc.) that I have came from the great gran-daughter of the former owner.
