My grandpa gave me this train when I was three years old.
What a gift for a three year old.
My Grandpa would run the trains with me and show me how every thing worked. We had a lot of fun great times.
Then when I was seven he died.
I run this train but I will never sell it, this yellow 2023 was his train he gave to me. This train brings me back to those days with my grandpa who was extremely close to me.
My grandpa also gave me a Lionel 2026 steam train when I was three years old too.
This is part of what started my love for Lionel Trains.
As I got older, around 12 years old I really started liking the older trains.
Lionel Trains pre 1960, Marx Trains, Then I collected the rarer trains as I got older. I love Trains for these four reasons,
1: Made in the USA.
2: Trains are America's History
3: Trains are Americana .
4: The trains were built to last.
About this train:
This train is the 50'th anniversary Train set for the Lionel Trains corporation.
This train came in a passenger set and a freight set .
The passenger train set is more rare.
The yellow 2023 is the anniversary train not the gray 2023.
The yellow 2023 was made in 1950.
This train has a nice horn powered by one D celled battery.
and lights as well and has mega traction for pulling power.
The 2023 with a gray nose and gray roof is the rarest yellow 2023.
The second rarest one is this one, you can't tell by looking at it but under both shells of the train is a black spray like paint, this was done for a small run. most of the 2023's don't have black spray like paint under the shells. that makes my train rare.
This train will be in my collection for life.
Great write up. You have memories of your diesel unit you shared with your grandfather. I have my first Santa fe complete set with the passenger vehicles from 1954 # 2353 my Uncle bought the set for me when I was just a baby. It will never be sold by me and will go to my son.
Great item and memories!
Great Stuff !!!
