Does anybody know what this little thing is or what it does? Recently found kicked under the bed in a motel room in a place that does seem to host lots of contractors and tradesmen.

It is about 2-1/8" long and 3/8" around and seems nicely made of a magnetic metal. Though it appears to consist of several different parts, nothing turns or moves in any way except for the tiny screw that can be removed. Its open end has 8 triangular slots machined into its edge, and closely fitted within that there is another likewise slotted part made of a different darker colored metal.

It sure LOOKS like it should have a purpose anyway, and I'd love to know what that purpose might be?!

That is a "Klipette". Nose hair trimmer/cutter.

THANKS EVERYBODY for such a quick ID of this item! Turns out it was just kinda 'stuck', after carefully applying just a little more than 'hand force' to it, it freed up and became the two rotating pieces I sorta thought it should be all along. Now soaking in disinfectant, after a thorough cleaning I guess I'll have to think about trying it to see how well it works...?!

After a nice *thorough* cleaning, then the addition of a single drop of light machine oil...finally was brave enough (after PoliticalPinbacks' slightly scary prediction, that is) to stick this thing up my schnozz this morning to see what it'd do. Gently twisted the knob around a few times feeling *nothing whatsoever*. Then looked at it (wondering if it did anything at all?) and was happily surprised to find its bizness end newly full of (former) nose-hair?!! :-) This little Klipette WORKS GREAT!! (and my current cheap battery-operated 'hair puller' is going into the trash!)

Hahaha! Glad you gave it a test run. I hadn't seen one since the late 1950's but knew right away what it was.
