Nice icebox!
I don't care for the coke bottle opener-- was it something you added?

I don't see any signs of restoring, such as dark areas around the ends of wood. White Clad is also a kit sold for building your own. I know because I used parts of that kit to build the one I put on CW some yrs. back & you can see it here. Are you sure yours is old ? Appears to be a professional job. I would like to see the inside. Do you have the drip pan too ?
The screws on the bottle opener are very modern.
All screws shown are Philips head.
Thank you scottvez, for the nice comment and the coke bottle opener was on it I did not add it.
blunderbuss2,it is old I will take pictures of the inside for you and yes it has drip pan too.
Glad to hear that. May I suggest that you change the Philips head screws.
I wouldn't mess with the screws.
As buss stated (and according to what I have read), "white clad" makes reproduction "ice box" furniture. It looks like an old ice box, but is without the interior and solely decorative-- it gives the old look, but has a functional, modern storage interior.
IF your box has an interior lining, then I would say that someone "enhanced" your piece with the name plate and Coca Cola bottle cap opener. Removing the screws is not necessary since both the plate and opener aren't original to the piece. Taking them off completely will leave the screw holes to be covered and not worth the effort.
IF your box doesn't have the lining, then it is most likely completely modern made.
From the looks of your ice box, I think that you have an antique ice box that was enhanced.

Thank you Scott, it is antique I posted some pictures of the inside so people can see it is not modern made.
Scott may like the sheet rock in antiques, but it makes my skin crawl . That's like having a gold medal bronzed. I fell in luv with old iceboxes yrs. ago. Did you look at the White Clad I have posted 5 yrs ago ?
"Scott may like the sheet rock in antiques".
Not sure what that means-- I'd appreciate an explanation of your characterization.
scott
Supposed to be "sheet rock screws". That's what they appear to be.
I don't like the coke bottle opener (see post #1) nor do I like the "white clad" name plate. BOTH are not original to the piece and appear to be reproduction hardware.
Changing the screws on them doesn't change the fact that they are not original to the piece and reproduction hardware.

Actually, there was a White Clad ice box and this is what their ID plate looked like. This may look like a repro, but can also be a polished original.
Why polish it up and then use NEW screws to reattach?
Indication (to me), is that it is ALL repro.
scott
Is the inside lined with sheet metal ?
Yes the inside is lined with sheet .
I can't imagine anybody but me insulating & putting in the sheet metal lining. I did it so I could put it to good use when we have a hurricane hit. Block ice is still sold near the docks. I now think the icebox is real & the plaque, may or may not be added for looks. Most iceboxes I've seen didn't have plaques.

imho it's a repro - antiques have to be 100 years or older - yes I'm a purist. They didn't have the type of shelf holders that are in your box. What's the inside covered with? Why is it white if it's lead? My ignorance is a facade.
Lots of plaques in link above - you can even buy a really old plaque from eBay.
