Native American leather star Dance Shield?

This is 14 inches wide. Very nice star design in various sizes. The inside has a cushion which is about 1 inch thick. The cushion is covered in a hand woven cloth. The back appears to have had a handle of which is gone. Fridge around the edge. Soft leather.

Found in New England. I have had this on my shelf for 15 years and would like to learn more about it.
