I have tried to research as much as I could of this pin for a friend of mine, who had it in her father's military ribbons and medals. He served in the 2nd Division in the Army during WW2, but there was no 22nd unit. It appears to be a pilgrim. I am not sure if this is a foreign pin, and I do not know what the M.S.G. stands for either.

He served in the European theater during his war time.

    Any help would be appreciated.

It is a Distinctive Unit Insignia or DUI. Soldiers commonly refer to these as unit crests.

I would think 22nd Infantry Massachusetts State Guard.

The back of the insignia may help to date/ show the maker.

Thank you very much for the help with the identification! Do you happen to know if this is a World War 2 item, or any other information?
