I love this tintype! I found it at our local consignment shop. What character the gentleman has! The size is approximately 4" x 2.5". I believe this to be an older tintype since the hat is not a true stovepipe as seen in later years but has curved sides and is styled like an Empire top hat. He could simply be a step behind fashions and it could be a later piece. No matter, I absolutely love it.
He has a flair for the dramatic I think. Maybe be was an actor?
I love him too. A lot!!
Thanks so much, PostCardCollector. He looks like an actor or perhaps a ringleader? :)
Bob Wilkes Booth
That's a good one, PoliticalPinbacks! There is a bit of a similarity to John. Thank you for the love, officialfuel, fortapache, SpiritBear, blunderbuss2, vetraio50, brunswick, and roddyq.
Ringleader at the circus. I was thinking that too. Somehow he sparkles in the "public eye"!
I would like to visit with him, he looks like a lot of fun--The life of every party!!
I agree, PostCardCollector, and yes, how wonderful it would be to visit with him! Thank you for the love, Wandlessfairy.
Thank you for the love, Caperkid.
Great character! The image probably dates from the 1870s as a loose tintype or possibly in a cdv mount. Any paper residue on the back?
Not Booth!
