I found these '60s strategy board games, "TwixT," "Oh-Wah-Ree," and "Ploy," at the Really Free Fair outside the farmer's market in Berkeley, CA. I couldn't believe anyone would want to give them up.

What I love about these boxes, part of the 3M Bookshelf Series, is how they're designed to look like hardbound books when you shelve them. Both "TwixT" and "Oh-Wah-Ree," were invented by famous game designer Alex Randolph and published in 1962. "Ploy," a Space Age version of chess created by Frank Thibault, was released in 1970.

My brother in Texas is a board-game fanatic, so I gave these to him. We played "TwixT," and of course, he beat me. It is simple in regards to the board, pieces, and play, but actually a brain-bender to win.

I love how the guy on the front of Ploy looks exactly like the Chekov character from the TV version of "Star Trek!"

I was going to say the same thing, but I think his ears might be heading toward Mr. Spock territory. I imagine you'd need the cold, hard analytical skills of a Vulcan to get anywhere with Ploy.

Looks like there are several on eBay right now, offered for $5-$70. Since I got these for free, I feel like I scored no matter. :)

I have those games too. ;) I also have "Facts in Five" and "Jumpin" games from 3M. I found this website that gives a little more information about these games. http://www.gamepile.com/items.php?id=2

Huh, I wonder who gave you the first three. ;) Did you get the other 3M games after I gave those to you?

Found one before and one after. Got them each for about $2. I have also seen many of the other titles at antique stores, but they usually want $15 or more for them.

I'm glad you enjoyed Twixt, and I hope you continue to play. One source of info is

Twixt was one of my favorite games...for some reason, I nearly always won...just came naturally to see multiple plays ahead and was always able to block my opponent while skirting around their 'wall'. I still have my original game from when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing and triggering my fun memories.
