This was purchased from an old Seattle Estate along with several other pieces of vintage Mid-Century Modern Studio Pottery over 30 years ago. This hand thrown vessel is glazed in matte black. The body of the piece is 4.25” in height without the lid. Including the lid with it’s coiled knob or finial is 4.5” high. The mouth opening is 2.5” in across and the stoneware pot is approximately 4.75” in diameter. Most of the pottery pieces that I picked up from this estate were from the 1950's. This piece is signed on the bottom but I personally can't make it out. Anyone who might recognize the artists signature and could help me date and identify the piece would be greatly appreciated.

Possibly early piece by Robert Kolden. He has a business now in Seattle, installing specialty finishes (cement and plaster), but attended art school in Chicago with an emphasis on ceramics.

Here's his web site and contact information. You might send a photo and ask him.

Thanks to both vetraio50 and CanyonRoad. It is a piece by Robert Kolden. I contacted him and indeed it was a piece he did around 1982 - 1983. Again, thank you both!
