The Iron Crosses pictured were awarded to Oberbootsmannmaat Harry Elwert, a member of the Kriegsmarine during WW II. He recieved these awards on July 14th, 1943, at Tromso, Norway. What is unusual about this, is that both awards were given on the same day. It is possible for this to happen, but it is rare, for usually one wins the IC 2nd class first, followed at a later date by the IC 1st class. He must have done something very heroic to win both on the same day. Both awards have the original presentation case and paper packet. Both certificates have a Vice Admirals name, Nordmann on them. One is actually signed by him, and the other is rubber stamped. I don't know why this happened.
