Antique School Playground 16' Bent Wood EverWear Childrens Slide Kids Swing Set
This slide and swing set was originally installed at the town of Egypt, New York elementary school. It was traded many years ago for one winter of snowplowing. This is overbuilt, sturdy commercial equipment. The 8' tall, 16' long slide has been professionally rebuilt and is new wood. Still in use today by adults!
May be 1920's or 1930's, the 1930's catalog pages almost match. Anyone have a closer match to pinpoint the year?
The downside (downslide!) is that these are banned for public use and have been by the Consumer Products Safety Commision (CPSC) since 1990. The issue here even though they may be privately owned, is that if someone falls off unto a non-certified fall surface material and gets hurt not only can the current owner be sued but the chain of liability goes all the way back to that school system that originally purchased the products. The changes we have seen to playgrounds in the last 30 years did not happen by accident (or did they?). I recommend carefully monitoring their use and suggest they be seen as visual artifacts and not an opportunity for future pain. And, yes, I am in the recreation equipment industry and am quite up to date with the national standards for parks and playgrounds.
