Hello everyone, Second time poster here, long time lurker!
Would any of you be able to tell me a little more about this piece? I bought it at an estate sale for around $12 mostly because I love it. It's HUGE. Probably around 8" long and I think it's a brooch of morning glories? The buds are colored rhinestones. It seems like potmetal to me with extensive patina. Because of this, I want to say it's 1940's?
But I can't find any similar examples of pieces similar anywhere. It has no marking and doesn't quite fit into any examples of 1940's brooches I've researched so far. The third pic shows the clasp. Any information/time period/etc. would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone - this is such a great forum for looking at what folks are finding and for reading about new things. I love this place!
Ok, my apologies. It's been a while since I took the photo and for some reason I thought it was larger than I thought so I *just* went out to the shop and measured it. It's 5 1/2" long. Whoopsie! still pretty large. And I keep thinking that it's large for that decade where they were trying to save metal? This piece has me perplexed! And for sure, no more wine before guesstimating lengths! Thanks Valentino97, I didn't even consider theatre use......
A shoulder pad brooch?! Interesting! I didn't even know that existed. Always learning here!
Hahaha, did I just invent the shoulder pad brooch? :-)) I would have worked great in the 80's maybe!
