This is the latest view of the library. It is the first room I will be completing as I made up my mind to work on one room at a time.

First photo: The light fixtures are newly installed. They're LED lights as my husband and I didn't want to go through the trouble of wiring the house. The ceiling is tromp l'oeil, meant to look like a tin ceiling. You can see the curio cabinet to the right. I will take a separate photo at a later time so you can see its contents. The bookshelves are probably going as I want more room and have purchased a smaller bookshelf. I may need to add one more as one can't have a library bereft of books! In the foreground, you can see the Duncan Phyfe library table I assembled from a House of Miniatures kit. In the background, you can see the William and Mary tall case clock my husband assembled from another House of Miniatures kit.

Second photo: My husband built the Chippendale desk from a House of Miniatures kit. I love these kits! I'd purchased the dogs a while back and I like the way they look here. I am adding a fireplace to this wall so there will be some moving of furniture very soon. I also gave the walls another coat of paint to remedy the splotchiness and brush marks. I used an ink pad to stain the basket, and the ephemera in the basket is a collection of vintage ads and French fashion magazines I purchased as pdf files and assembled and aged with ink.

Third photo: I made the Hepplewhite table and lyre back chairs from House of Miniatures kits. The chairs now have blue cushions. The domino set was another pdf purchase that I assembled.

Fourth photo: Here is a view of the desk with all of the papers, a Reutter porcelain inkwell and a toast rack I use as a letter holder. The walls are getting baseboards and the ceiling will have molding.

Thank you for sharing my love of miniatures!

Absolutely beautiful! I have a dollhouse that I constructed 30+ years ago (never worked on the inside) and have just developed my love for antiques. Your passion has just shown me what I want to do, as well. Thank you for sharing. You have done a fabulous job on the library. I would love to see a photo of the house you are working on. I most definitely will be following you now. :-)

Thought these were photo's of a real Victorian home until I started reading, VERY well done with just enough disarray to make it look all the more real, I know first hand the work it takes and how they nickel and dime ($20 and $50) you however it becomes a mission, One thing for sure I have a ton of work ahead to get my wife's to look 1/2 as good as your's... GREAT JOB!!!

Thank you so much, PoliticalPinbacks, melaniej, clmason456, nutsabotas6, and courtenayantiques. Much appreciated. Clmason456, I would love to see your dollhouse. I will take a photo of mine and post it on here. There was a great collector and artist known as Tasha Tudor, and I am greatly inspired by her.

OMG, to say you have done a great job is an understatement!!! WOW! Now I see why they are so expensive ;) I actually thought it was a photo of your home at first!!! Awesome work!

Thank you so much, shareurpassion. That is the ultimate compliment.
You know, my husband and I bought the dollhouse kit about 14 years ago on clearance at Hobby Lobby. We worked on it briefly and it moved with us 10.5 years ago here to New York and sat in the attic for about as long until we took it out after the first of this year.
Filling the dollhouse can be incredibly expensive, but I was determined to do a nice job without spending a fortune. The House of Miniatures kits can be found online quite reasonably and they're fun to put together and stain. The nice thing is that they can all match with the same stain. I had to do some thinking, though, because most of the pieces are copies of circa 1700s and early 1800s furniture. So, I decided my dollhouse family (who has yet to move in; I'm thinking of making dolls out of papier-mâché) will be a Victorian family who has inherited some of what is Colonial era furniture. ;)
For the other objects, I look for reasonable yet beautiful and unique pieces like the miniature French ceramics, which are often baked into holiday cakes and breads. I put some of these in my curio cabinet. I have a few jars of shells and sea glass, and I found a small shell from one of these to place in the curio. I also have a gem sized tintype of a Civil War era child that I'll affix to the wall. So, it's pretty easy to not spend a fortune. I kind of like the challenge.
      Thank you again!
