Here's something (hopefully interesting?) to start sharing pics of stuff from my "phone collection". ;-)
This is a sturdy fiberboard case measuring 14" square and 5" deep with heavy duty metal hardware, divided into 9 compartments holding 8 metal coin boxes as used in old 3-slot paystation telephones. Apparently cases such as these were used by the phone company personnel who actually collected the coins from the phones.
Only the coin boxes themselves are present, each would have also had an additional clip-on 'lid' assembly incorporating a security seal and theft-proofing mechanism to latch and lock the box fully closed upon its actual removal from the phone. (so the coin collector couldn't 'pilfer' anything)
I know for a fact these coin boxes fit Automatic Electric 3-slot phones, (as I have one of those too) but would expect they would also work in any similar 3-slot phone.
Very interesting when I worked for GTE I use to see these coin boxes all the time in the coin telephone dept.
