This is a large comport but light for its size. There is no trailed thread around the rim, but the meeting of the black and the orange glass is very precise. I think that the bowl and pedestal were made then joined together. Image three shows the base and how it differs from pedestal rose bowls.
Incredibly the three pieces in image four were found in the space of a month.
comport........ an English word meaning a bowl on a pedestal.
compote........ a French word meaning stewed fruit.
compotier ..... a French word meaning a bowl on a pedestal
