People who take an interest in the work of Rhoda Wager will probably recognise this brooch as Australian. I know Jewel1900, TassieDevil, kyra and kiwipaul have seen this design before. I also have a pair of earrings with the same design, I'll put the link on below. This design as been associated with Rhoda Wager, but here on CW we believe it isn't. These designs have been sold in top end galleries and auction houses as Rhoda Wager.
We shall probably never know who made these pieces, but there is no denying they are wonderful. I've tried to show the colours within the opal but as people know they are notoriously difficult to photograph. The opal is a doublet with a slight dome at the back.
Many thanks for looking

Hi Jean, another lovely brooch and Australian for sure as you say! :-)
It has been a long time since I have found anything like this here......hopefully I will be able to start serious looking again when we finally move which is now supposed to be 9th June!!!!
Oh my, that is so beautiful! It about looks like the sky in your photo (profile pic I think it's called!)
Hi Judy, good luck on your move it's seems to be going on forever, I would be stressed out. Are you buying any jewellery or abstaining until your settled. This brooch is one that came along, I'm always interested in this type of work, who knows in the future we might get to know the maker, I doubt it but I remain optimistic.
Thank you shareurpassion, opals always remind me of those beautiful sunsets.
Yes Jean....it does seem to be going on forever......settlement was supposed to be this wed 10th May.....but a call from our solicitor last week informed us that the buyer of our house " is not ready to settle yet and wants the whole 60 days" !!!
And yes I am stressed for sure!!!! We have worked our butts off to be ready and now we are pretty much marking time until 9th June!!!
I haven't even been looking for jewellery, but will be back into it once this move and unpacking is done and dusted! :-)) Glad you are finding some nice pieces.
Hi Jean, this is by the same maker as your earrings. Did you see the opal ring that recently sold on eBay. It was quite nice but sold for a lot of money!
Interestingly I've recently bought an opal ring by Wager with her grape leaf design.
Also, have you been to the markets yet?
Was that the one with the marquise Opal?
Not yet, I'm going to Newark on the 1st of June, I'm looking forward to it. I would kill for a Rhoda Wager piece, maybe I might be lucky in the future, I certainly have a lot to learn I still haven't an angle on her work.
Yes the marquise opal. You know I don't really pay attention to stones so maybe it was the opal that was a bit extra desirable.
I'll post some Newark tips when I get some time (going to bed now - gotta sleep when little people do!).
Your Wager piece will come!
Thanks Jewels1900, I would love some tips so look forward to your advice. By the way was that ring a Wager ring?
No. Very pretty but not Wager by a long shot.
I watched it to the bitter end, but decided I really didn't want to pay that price, plus I always seem to get it wrong as far as Rhoda Wager concerned.
I did go all out & buy the enamel ring with the rose. Did you see that one?
Oh yes the Edith Dawson, I was very tempted, it was touch and go but I decided against it as I have enough collections going on. It was very pretty and if I remember you mentioned here on CW you have some of their work. Have you received it yet?
No, it's not arrived yet. I'm not 100% sure it's by the Dawsons. It certainly has the right look. But a ring like that is so unusual that I thought is was worth a good go.
I have 2 pieces which I can comfortably attribute to the Dawsons.
Hi Jewels1900, You might fine you have brought a very lovely ring. I did do some searching around and I found a brooch with a similar rose. I would love to see it when it arrives.
I would love to see your 2 other Dawson pieces.
Many thanks

Hi Jewels1900, thanks for the above link, their very pretty but I'm trying to keep myself to a budget after buying a wonderful pendant and earrings by my favourite Bernard Instone, I'll post them later.
Can I ask you a favour, could you look at the above link and could let me know if this pendant could be Amy Sandheim. I'm back in sunny Spain after spending time with family and friends in the U.K. I've been selling some of what I consider some my least favorite jewellery, to be honest it's definitely not the right time to sell but they all sold and I'm now trying to concentrate on Art and Craft. How are things in the land of Oz, I hope you and your family are well.
