I purchased this fan at a thrift store and took it home to see if it still worked. I love the bright navy blue colour. I found that when I unscrewed the butterfly nut on the bolt on it’s base that it, literally, fell apart. I blew out the dust, tightened the three nuts holding the motor and tightened the screws securing the cords wiring to the switch.
The test. I placed the switch to “FAN” , held my breath and plugged it in. It started to … blow air! Cool! That went well, so I stood back a bit and switched it to “HTR”. Low and behold … heat … and the smell of electrically burn’t dust from days gone by. I went to turn it off … there is no “OFF” switch! (safe :-)
So, the mystery is, I tried to look its history up on the web and did find a museum page with lots of information. But what I can’t explain is why the fan I have has “Patrician” printed on its name plate when all of the pictures I can find have ”Torcan” printed on them. The manufacturing company is also different and when I try to find it, I find no reference to it.
All in all, cool fan but I am a paranoid, safety conscious, person and will not be using it as an every day fan/heater. It will remain a cool looking conversation piece, gradually regathering the ancient dust I once blew away.
