It could just be the handwriting is hard to read, but I don't think a county or state is ever listed in this deed. There appears to be a town called "Tarton" but I'm guessing my spelling is wrong. On the back it calls the land Walmsley Smithy, but I can't even find anything on that. Strangely, one sentence mentions war and a taproom, it says could "supply one man in one day in a war" or something along those lines. Any idea where this is from or what it actually is?

May well be a sale of land in Walmsley, Turton.

Hi there - I'm doing some research on Turton and this deed would be really useful. The two names are John Kay and John Hampson, and it concerns Walmsley Smithy in Turton (which was also known as Stanrose). It was in a village which is now called Egerton. John Hampson died in 1787.

Any chance you could provide more photos of the whole document?
