Ok, so I found a Russian Matryoshka Doll and snatched it up bacause as I was growing up, my mother had one that had maybe 2 or 3 dolls. When I saw the size of this one, I knew there were more than that (she stands a little over 6" tall and is about 5.5" diameter) plus I have had others that sell well.
Aka- nesting dolls, babushka dolls, nesting dolls. These are made the same way the very first one was made...no techniques have changed since 1890. These are great learning tools for children about the close nit family, teaches them hand eye co-ordination, counting, tells stories and so on.
Does anyone know the signature? I can't seem to read it.
AND...
This one has 10 and I can not for the life of me figure out the "story" she's telling. I don't know what the depiction of the painting is on the first (largest) doll. Is it a Prince Ivan and the frog princess? That's what I'm beginning to believe as the 2nd doll has a painting of a young man and a frog. But then we come to the next and it's of a girl with a bunny rabbit and carrots. The 4th doll has the two together with a musical instrument I can't for the life of me remember what it's called and the 5th has a painting of a young man looking at a crown...Ohhh, you know what, I think I just got it because in the story the prince goes back for the princess that almost married another man but when the prince came back they took off together in a hurry, so I bet that's her crown that fell off! (Now how is that a good story to tell children, lol) Hurry up before he gets here!!! Yes, I read the whole story. I like to be as accurate as possible when selling so there is no doubt when someone wants something. My no surprised approach ;) and if there is a surprise, it's usually to their benefit, which is fine with me.
I just didn't realize the values of some of these dolls either. I think the highest one I saw was over 5g! I know that's not this one but if anyone here knows if I'm right or wrong about the story, could you please take a look to let me know if it may be something else?
Your time and effort is really appreciated!
Thanks all!
If closer photos of the first 5 would help, I will do that. The rest of them simply have flowers.
Thanks for the love BB2!
That's such a great set! Big family, and detailed painting. Can't help with the story sorry.
