I believe this is a Boston Rocker painted in mustard paint though those are just guesses. It's a pretty primitive shape , ( hand made) and made for a small derrière . 42 inches tall, ( with seat back being 30.5 " so rather tall for a child's chair) seat height 16" and space between arms, just 13 1/2" . Seat depth 15". The back is slightly curved and the pattern of flowers and grapes is hand painted. Would much appreciate any information on it!
Impressive!!!
What a wonderful chair! It was probably constructed of maple, sometime during the 1830s or early 1840s. And yes - it is a 'Boston.'
I have one which is similar, but dates to a little later, and has the simpler headrest. The curved seats on these old rocking chairs are so neat :)
