I decided to keep this beautiful plate after all. The person who listed it didn't realize that he had posted a different set of photos in ebay, and another one on a different site when he put it up for auction. I posted photos to the fb collecting Japanese Ceramics and Art page and was told by one of the world's most respected experts that this plate is actually better than the unbroken ones in the photos - even broken! the seller gave me 25% back and i get to keep the plate. it all worked out! cherries?!
this is an UMA-NO-ME-ZARA plate - which means 'horse's eye'. they are very collectible in Japan and around the world. this is a very old one -around 200 years old.
