I bought this dish years ago when I first started collecting I got this from a antique shop for 5pounds just love the colour of the glaze it has a Japan back stamp on the front it has a bird and a shield on it can some help with any information much appreciated
I would say the insignia is an attempt at the Great Seal also known as the Coat of Arms of the United States.
OK thanks that's great much appreciated .thanks to manikin for the love

Lots of information here about the the possible age of your dish. http://www.coxsackie.com/reference/cooaadt.htm
Also, before you get excited, there's this from Kovels:
"Beginning in 1921, U.S. Customs required country names to be in English, and the word “Japan” was used instead of “Nippon.” Items marked “Made in Occupied Japan” were made between February 1947 and April 1952. After that, just the word “Japan” was used again. "
So your piece could be from 1921 - 1938
or 1947 and April 1952.
Given the Coat of Arms on it, I'd guess the later date period.

(Wish this comment section had an edit feature.)
....later date period = after 1952.
