I found this circa mid-1800s deck of playing cards at our local consignment shop, and not for a minute did I consider selling them. They're just exquisitely beautiful.
The hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs don't have numbers- just the symbols for the suits. I've just shown the edges of the cards and some of the face cards.
The backs of the cards are a light blue, and the edges have gilt trim. I believe these are hand-colored; you can see the run of color in the second photo in the lower left hand side. Grimaud of Paris is printed in the lower left hand corner of one of the cards I've shown, and some of the face cards have the names of the people depicted.
