This is a beautiful white filagrana cockatoo with gold aventurine. It measures 9.5" x 4" and has an applied base and crest and a ground pontil.
My father had a parakeet in Florida , named Pretty, whom he adored and he used to travel up North, by car, with his bird. He would stay with us in PA and crank the heat up to 80 for the bird. So I told him that I had a nice condo for Pretty in my oven. She was spoiled and she was the only bird I knew that drove north for the summer. When the parakeet died, I bought him this bird for Christmas, and jokingly told him that I wanted it back when he died. Well, he passed away a number of years ago, and I got the bird. The joke was on me, because this is a cockatoo, not a parakeet! I never knew until another collector directed me to the difference only yesterday.
Very nice !
If your dad was a bird lover, obviously he was. It didn't matter the species of the statue, all that mattered is that it was a bird and you cared enough to give it to him. Your dad and my dad were quite alike....with one difference. My dad has been gone for 15 years but his parrot is still alive and well living in up state NY.
Haha. My dad lived in Watkins Glen for awhile. Did your dad have the heat cranked high too?
Great story...I bet he knew that all along and just didn't say anything! He must be smiling at you now!
ha I totally forgot to say...I love this pattern! It will always amaze me the way they pull and twist and shape the glass!!!
I agree, and I wish I could have been a glass blower. To me it is one of the most amazing arts around!
She is a wonder!!
