This measures about 40 inches long and 16 inches wide at widest area... there is a black material label with goldtone printing...Cotrell and Leonard, Albany, N.Y. I did look to them for information but received no reply.
Apparently they were originators of the cap and gown industry in the United states and are still in business.
The material inside (red and white ) I believe is silk. The black maybe cotton and the light tan wide trim feels like soft velvet.
I tried to get good picture of the small button on one side of the inside red and the stretchy elastic piece on the other side that hooks onto the button.
I am assuming that this item probably was part of something to do with graduations ??
