I have searched and searched and only found 2 other lamps that were close to this, but not exact. I was hoping that between all the collective, lamp versed folks on this website, someone may have some info for me. I acquired this lamp from an online auction and the owner's didn't know a thing about it other than it was part of an entire estate they had purchased. That was a lot of help, right?
This is what I can tell you about the lamp. It is very dirty. I didn't want to clean it or do anything to it until I was able to find something out about it, so please try to look past the dirt. The dirt is probably the same age as the lamp!
It is about 10" high and around 7-8" in diameter. The base and lamp main color is a vibrant yellow with white daisies and in the center of all the daisies there is a brown circle with a hole. Inside the hole there were round, brown colored glass marble type stones. There is only one of them still intact on the lamp, but I think I have all the marble type glass stones that fell out. There are no inscriptions or markings anywhere on the lamp that I can find. All the electrical appears to be original to the lamp and it has a candelabra light bulb. The base is attached to the lamp itself. It is not removable. The lamp is in very good condition. The paint is vibrant and no discoloration or wearing on it. There are no chips anywhere on the lamp. The underneath of the base has a few "stress fractures" in the paint, I am assuming due to the age. It also looks like there's a chip underneath the base, but it's not. That is how it was when made because the paint was glazed over it.
Please....if anyone could help me with any information on this little retro type gem, I would really appreciate it. Maybe someone can tell me where to ask or give me a website that may be able to help me with information.
Thank you so much for reading my post and any comments you may have to offer.
I have not seen anything quite like this before, but I wish I had! It's a fantastic 50s piece and must be a delight when lit.
My feeling is the marbles in it are erroneous, probably from a kid.
I e-mailed a lady on Etsy.com that had sold a lamp similiar to the one I have. There are a few differences between the two. She said that back in the 60's this was a favorite item that woman chose at ceramic classes to paint and decorate. I am not sure if that is the case with my lamp. I actually paint ceramics quite often. A craft my Mother got me into at a very youg age when she would take me to ceramic class with her. I can tell you that it has been my findings that every person that does create and paint their own ceramic pieces most always signs their name and date of project somewhere on the piece before it has been fired. There isn't any indication of ever having a name on my lamp.
