    Somehow I think .....
"dwarf"(?) when I look quickly at this Civil War Era photo. He seems out of proportion, or it is just a coat that is very long? I think maybe he felt more comfortable in the coat than without it.New Bedford, Mass. Photographer, Knowles and Hillman, 8 1/2 Purchase St. Very good condition, carte de visite

      Mr. Stubby looks good??

Funny about the Napoleon pose. So many photos have the men posed that way; especially in the oldest ones. I didn't think Americans' were especially wanting to adulate the man to that extent. Was the hidden hand symbolic of something in particular?

Wouldn't say HE looks good but his coat does, symbolic of little hands? dry skin maybe OH hiding the wedding ring

Political Pinbacks--did I accidently deleted your comment as I was adding the names of the people who clicked love. I am so sorry--can you re-post it?-I vote for "little hands" obscured maybe.
I suppose that he could be a man who lost portions of his legs in the war and with wooden ones--or just a real long bodied fellow. But "little person" still comes to my mind and sticks there.
For sure tho---the photo'd gent is an odd...

OH! I enlarged the photo--That is not a stool he leans on--it is some kind of stand, or his personal device for handicapped.( And still might be dwarfism)
I am sooo sorry though-- that I pet named him "Mr.Stubby"!! Rude.

It's still up there Lois, I think he's hiding a wedding ring myself

Wouldn't that mean he has a girlfriend or is looking for one? If the wife sees the photo, she might lock him out?. It's hard for me to see this man as a player. Maybe...play for pay. Ya think?

LOL it was popular then, Oh he's a player not sure of what but oh yeah

People dressed better in the stone age than they do now. I wonder when we start wearing the futuristic metallic looking jumpsuit outfits they wear in the future.
    12. PostCardCollector PostCardCollector, 8 years ago
Ahhh In those fashions you can't sit down in we spend half our lives doing that now That future won't work we are too lazy It will be pajamas for night and day in our near future.

Political Pinbacks I think he's a Poker Player and hides poker hands in many places in his huge coat...and a pistol!
