Industrial Singer 81-5 serial AA499372 born in June 9-1925. This little 91 yrs old sew machine weights 30 pounds. I got this sew machine along other parts (like the thread spool holder and Singer table emblems) from the trash. It was very rusted and completely jammed. I used electrolysis to remove the rust and with patience and time it runs smooth like new. Missed some parts though, like the upper tension as you can see (use a marble ball for a while but I make a new upper tension). You can still get clones of this machine like the overlock sew machine GN1-1. I use copper color spray. It's still in restoration process. The decorations decals gone but I'm planning to buy singer restoration decals on Ebay soon. Sorry for my English. Updated: New upper tension (built with other tension) and put a Kenmore sew machine motor. Still in restoration
Did you just dip the whole machine in, or was it piece by piece?
Thanks SpiritBear for the love. I submerge the completed machine in a large bucket with water and Arm and Hammer Washing Soda and use a car battery charger following with caution the instructions in YouTube for removing rust with Electrolysis. Because this sew machine was completely cast iron I let it there in the solution for 1 day. After that I flushed it the gummy thing that the process let, use steel brush, oiled with professional WD40 and began to remove parts because was completely jam. After remove several screws and parts, the machine got loose. I cleaned it with soap and water, use denatured alcohol, painted and oiled again. It wasn't easy but I thing I did a pretty good job. This process took me about a month. Thanks for the question.
Pretty cool.
