Pictured above is a 1938 complete Meccano instructions booklet for set number 6 which came in different unit numbers this one being # 38.8. Depending on which unit you bought different unit numbers included more or less pieces limiting which pictured sets in the booklet you could actually build. Good marketing strategy by meccano to put subsets for sale. The war in 1939 put an end to meccano and Hornby trains until the war ended due to the metal rationing top priority to be used for the war effort. Once the war ended metal was once again made available for toy companies.
The back of the booklet is a full page advertisement for the Hornby Princess Elizabeth Royal O gauge 4-6-2 Locomotive and tender # 6201. . The loco remained the only gauge 0 4-6-2 loco ever made by Hornby, and also the only gauge 0 loco with six drive wheels, something that the company had previously explained was impractical on normal-curvature track for engineering reasons.
Meccano didn't only make sets they also marketed Hornby Dublo trains.

There are fully illustrated pages in the booklet explaining what pieces are needed to construct each of the different sets. The booklet is a good reference to use when buying sets to see if they are actually complete.
I am including a link on The Princess Elizabeth locomotive for further reading.

Got your mind and hands working together for sure PoliticalPinbacks. Had a lot of fun building different meccano pieces. Later on in life found a huge box at a church sale many pieces and a couple of motors!!
