WAFFLE HOUSE is an iconic chain of 24/365 'we never close' restaurants scattered all over the southern USA, often found at interstate highway interchanges, which began in the mid 1950's near Atlanta GA.

    https://www.wafflehouse.com/history/

(oddly not mentioned on their official website is the fact that, due to the 24/365 thing, they are *also* a long time favorite of the "after the bars close" crowd <lol> and, slightly too frequently, the 'late night robbery' crowd... <eeek>)

They really are generally entertaining restaurants and the food is consistently pretty good. (also greasy of course, but hey -- its a diner?!) If you'd ever happen to stop at one, this is an example of the cup you'd probably get your coffee served in. It (and most of the rest of WH dishware) is made of opaque white glass, this cup identified on its bottom as by "arcopal FRANCE".

Belated THANKS to PoliticalPinbacks, racer4four, aura, PhilDMorris, & Brunswick for your <loves>! PP that's so true, I turned 21 in 'the nawth' (IL) so Denny's woulda been more likely for me, WhiteCastle was further north towards Chicago but wasn't so active yet further downstate.

But BY FAR much more memorable to me now than any of those chains was the place where I, in fact, often did end up "after the bars closed" in those first few yrs of my 'legal drinker' life. <lol> For over 80 yrs now, ROSS'S has been a fixture in the Quad-Cities USA (Davenport/Bettendorf IA & Rock Island/Moline IL, straddling the mighty Mississippi River) just over the I-80 bridge on the IA side.

TRUST ME y'all -- that plateful of stuff in the center pic at that page is what they call a "volcano" [note the shape of their logo ;-)] which they were then and are no doubt still FAMOUS for, locally anyway -- the ABSOLUTE BESTEST SLOPPY MESS of french fries, chili/meat, cheese, onions, & etc that one could EVER hope for after a good long night of alcohol consumption...? <LOL>
