I don't think photos can relate the size of this Iwata vase, even with Madame Butterfly for scale. It is huge. And bright. And fun!

This has to be a Toshichi Iwata design; it shows all of his style, with simple shapes embellished with internal pulegoso glass, bright pulled colours, and an almost total disregard for perfect form. Toshichi was more than capable of very controlled glass making but his style was very free and for him the variations in a piece equaled art.
You may be able to spot small bubbles of air in the glass and although they look random when I look at the piece as a whole they have been deliberately placed. They are different size bubbles, but are all placed at approximately the same points in the design.

It's not to everyone's taste, and if you like perfect and controlled glass (like Toshichi's son Hisatoshi made) this won't be for you.

    Height: 33cm
    Diameter: 21cm
Weight: scales said EEEEE, so over 5 kgs

Hi Karen. What a Stunning, bold & bright piece this is, quite different from anything I find around here. Although it's not 'my era' I wouldn't say no to this

Pretty is not the first adjective that comes to me when I see this Fort, but I'm happy if you think so. Thanks.

Bright and bold seem very applicable Fran. I'm afraid it would bully your lovely glass so maybe it's better you don't see this stuff lol. Thanks!

      Great description Malkey, thanks!

Thanks so much Sylvia, it's so very different from your delicate collection.

Ken it's a bright lump of coloured glass for sure! Thanks mate.

It weighs about 3,421 pieces of Tango combined Peggy. And would break your shelf; I have it on the floor! Thanks for the love.

This piece is so delicious, all those summery citrus colors! I love that it's giant size, that's absolutely as it should be, this is not a timid piece of glass, it speaks its mind. Hah, I keep thinking I'll get bored of seeing these glass pieces, and it just never happens, and that makes it even better. Brilliant collection, Karen, keep sharing always, makes coming here special. Nourishing, if you know what I mean.

Man, you really are good for my ego Katherine! Gotta say thanks :)
You are so right about the scale of this piece, it would look wrong any smaller.

This one was sent over from Japan; I doubt this style was ever made for export. I'm lucky to have it I think.
