It was the middle of May, fifty years ago, when the radios around America began playing a Scott McKensie record inviting the nation to San Francisco. I can't help but feel...aged (kinda like wine or cheese - it sounds better than old).
If you are heading back for the "Hashbury" reunion, here are some of the accessories to go with your patched jeans and tie-dyed shirts - a "Peace" candle holder, various pins and medallions, and hand-made prismatic glasses. Just add some flowers for your hair.
The second picture is a selection of vintage smoking accessories - marijuana is quasi-legal in California for the moment (though it wouldn't surprise me if paraphernalia was still illegal) but the seeds of acceptance were sewn in the 60s.
Marijuana wasn't the only diversion. LSD was popular. That popularity led Art Kleps to the founding of the Neo-American Church and issue this guide book. Fortunately acid remained a sub-culture but it did lead to some interesting art.
Groovy, man!
