Today I want to show you this vintage silver necklace. On the far side there is a dragon to see. There are no marks but acid tested on silver. On all three parts of the chain a Chinese sign. Now I'm sure it's a Neiger silver necklace. Rare. There are so much characteristic features with this style that this should be a true Max Neiger. About 1900-1920s.

      Hi Marga!
Very interesting necklace, but I doubt it is Chinese, neither 1900...
It has a Neiger feeling to me.
Searching now for that track :-)

Kyra, as often, thank you very much for all your information and effort. The chain actually shows resemblance to the chain in the link. But if my chain from this designer,|Max Neiger ,why not signed?

Kyra, I looked for Neiger jewelry on Pinterest, there is not any piece without stones they were known for. But where to ask for indentification??

Hi Marga, I don't know if all Neiger pieces were marked... from the links it seems stamped components were available for several companies who could assemble them too.
Here is a brooch without Czech glass embellishments :
MAX NEIGER. Art Deco Chinoiserie Brooch. Asian Theme. Gablonz

Anyway, your necklace appears to be a rare piece!

shareurpassion, thanks for your comment but there are some doubts in the maker of this necklace as you can see below.

Hello Kyra: According to Gillian Horsup Vintage Costume Jewelery at Grays Antiques London, this necklace is not made by Neiger. She wrote me the following: This necklace does not say Neiger to me. Neither does it say 1900. I think the chain is later than that. I'm not seeing components that strike me as those Neiger used. He usually used brass rather than white metal. He was known for the complexity of his pieces. The backs are usually as ornate as the fronts. He usually used stones. Neiger did not make the components - he bought these from the little workshops nearby and assembled them. One Neiger collector told me she looked for at least 4 components that he liked to use before she would consider a piece as Neiger. Neiger had a reputation to keep up so every piece had to be better than anyone else's work! There were so many other makers working in Gablonz at the time. It could be anyone. So much stuff was not marked. I have given up trying to work out who made what! The net is awash with people claiming that pieces are Neiger (or Jakob Bengel - he is an German Art Deco Manufacturer.) Is your necklace actually silver - or is it silver colored? Am enclosing a photo of a few brooches, so you can see how complicated they are - and they are quite heavy. I can not help you more - Best wishes - Gillian

So the maker of this beautiful necklace will probably alwasy be a mystery ?!
    15. kyratango kyratango, 7 years ago
      A nice mystery!
It is great to have a specialist opinion, Gillian Hors up was so kind to explain!
We now know it is Gablonz/Czech, not Chinese, not 1900 ;-))

Kyra The last photo of the brooch I found with the following description :
MAX NEIGER. Art Deco Chinoiserie brooch. Asian theme. Gablonz Vintage jewelry.
Despite the comment of Gillian Horsup, I think you're right and my necklace is indeed a Max Neiger because there is indeed a lot of likeness between this brooch and my piece dont't you think ? !
    17. kyratango kyratango, 7 years ago
Marga, indeed, I can see similarities, it is the brooch I posted a link to in my comment #10
      :-))

The seller attribute it to Neiger brothers... I don't know if it is actually, or made by one of the Gablonz maker's...
