Found this Metro Globe here in Utah, its a local piece from metro oil company which was a small chain of gas stations here in the rocky mountains, not to be confused with Mobile metro!! There wasnt many of these stations!! 13 total I believe, the story begins between 10 and 15 years ago!! While out picking up an old car, my little brother found one of the only Metro oil signs that have been found to date from this company under an old car we bought!! It was an amazing sign which has an airplane flying through the metro, it was I believe 42 in double sided porcelain could have been a little smaller , he sold the sign in Reno at hot august nights, and the sign ended up in A very big collection in Kramer Junction California!! Still kicking ourselves for selling the sign!! Anyway when I found this globe I was extatic cause to say they are rare is a gross understatement, the sign we found years ago has been reproduced in smaller signs and globes looking like the sign with the plane on em!! This is what the globes actually looked like!! This globe came out of Tooele Utah, the sign was found north of Logan Utah the owner of the metro stations owned a station around Logan, one in Tooele and one in saltlake city, Ogden area from what Ive gathered!! I'm very happy to be able to Have found this globe, without the knowledge of the sign we found years ago I would have just figured it was just the more common mobil metro, but its very cool that we found the sign years ago and now have found a globe a globe from same station!! Love unearthing lost history!! Heck probably wont even clean this one, and leave the history on it!!
I recently found an older version of the Metro Sign in Utah. Mine has an all glass globe with different, but similar Metro faces. We ought to compare notes. I’m in Provo at Lakeside Museum
