Hi - I would love to know more about this beautiful chair that I just bought off Craigslist. The seller said her parents purchased it "somewhere in Europe in the 1960s". That is all I know about it so far. It's really so beautiful and well-proportioned, and the inlay is delicate and careful. Could someone point me in the right direction to finding out more about this chair? What is the style? How old do you think it is? It looks like it has been reupholstered maybe sometime in the last half century, and not professionally. It is quite heavy. Thanks to anyone who can help!
Appears to be German, the inlaid wood is a fantastic design ! The chair back is reminiscent of the Balloon Back Chair.
Thanks for that information! I love the inlay design too, especially the red touches. I have been trying to discover why the stork seems to feature significantly in a lot of antique marquetry.
So the balloon-back and the cabriole back legs give me a rough date of about 1850...
If it is storks it reminds me of a victorian maternity chair.
