Husbands mother left this to him. Wondering what it is? What is it worth? Husband wants to sell. Thinks it maybe Navajo and some other American Indian tribe.

No Navajo baskets here. Despite the claims one reads on line, virtually no Navajo baskets were made between the late 1890s and the 1990s. Religious and cultural restrictions/taboos discouraged women from weaving baskets, to the extent that by the 1930s, studies confirm that even the "Navajo" wedding baskets made for ceremonial use, were all made for the Navajo, by the Utes.

The blurry photos make positive identification difficult, but it appears that the larger one is Mescalero Apache, and the smaller one with the handle woven into the rim, is Papago (now called Tohono O'odham.)

A good reference to confirm is "Indian Baskets of the Southwest" by Clara Tanner.
